Tonight we went to the Republican caucus for our precinct. In Utah, the governing system is a little different than in most places; people are voted in as delegates for their political party, and then they represent their precinct (a few thousand people or so) at the party's convention. These delegates basically decide which candidates will appear on the ballots for the primaries (for offices like the US Senate and US House of Representatives). They also have weighted votes during the primaries, giving their candidate of choice more total votes. Tonight, Alex was voted as a delegate for our precinct! He was also voted as a county delegate and as the precinct's vice-chairman. His political career has begun! So now he will get to meet with the candidates for Senate and for the House of Representatives and be able to discuss political issues with them. Awesome! Next stop, the Oval Office.
yay alex!!! soooooo proud of you... i totally agree with "next stop the oval office"!!! way to go!!!!!
